Auto-mapping

Before a robot cleans properly, it needs to know the shape of your home. In auto-mapping it drives a slow lap of every room, using its sensors to draw a floor plan on your phone.

For the Narwal Freo 20, Tom’s Guide reports this takes roughly 20 to 30 minutes, longer in a big house. Afterwards you name the rooms and mark places the robot should avoid.

It pays to check the map before the first clean. Skip it and the robot may ignore a room, or repeatedly drive into a gap it cannot get out of.
