Sensor redundancy means a robot or car does not depend on a single way of seeing. If glare blinds the cameras, a laser scanner or radar still reports what is ahead.

Waymo’s robotaxis carry cameras, laser scanners and radar for this reason. Tesla relies on cameras only, which critics say leaves no backup when the cameras fail.
