ANYbotics AG builds four-legged robots that inspect industrial plants. The company sits in Zürich, Switzerland, and also lists an office in San Francisco. It says it was founded in 2016 to turn university research into a product.
Its own pages trace the first prototype to ETH Zurich in 2009. Independent sources add that it is an ETH Zurich spin-off, co-founded by Péter Fankhauser and Hanspeter Fässler. Fankhauser is co-founder and chief executive.
What they build
The main product is ANYmal, a four-legged robot that walks a plant and takes readings. It carries a zoom camera, a thermal camera, a spotlight, an ultrasonic microphone and a laser scanner on a moving mount. The company rates it IP67, so dust and water should not stop it.
ANYbotics gives the walking speed as 0.75 metres per second and the range as about 2 kilometres per charge. It states 90 to 120 minutes of battery per charge, and three hours for a full recharge. The robot can carry 10 kilograms more, for example gas sensors, and parks itself at a docking station when the battery runs low.
ANYmal X is the version for places where gas can catch fire. The company says it is certified to ATEX and IECEx standards up to Zone 1 IIB, so it may enter areas of refineries and chemical plants that need protected equipment. ANYbotics has called it the first explosion-protected four-legged robot; that is the company’s claim, not a checked fact. Its own page said updated 2026 specifications were still to come, so some numbers are not public.
The robots come with a rugged tablet, a charger, a docking station and a transport box. Software called ANYbotics Shift plans missions, flags odd readings and pushes findings into maintenance systems. Shift replaced the earlier Data Navigator platform.
What they are known for
ANYbotics is known for putting legged robots to work in heavy industry rather than in demos. Its pages name customers in power, metals, cement, chemicals and offshore oil and gas. Company figures on its site cite more than 120,000 inspections analysed each month and over 1,000 monitored assets, and a company release cites more than 200 robot deployments.
Independent reporting fills one gap the site does not: in May 2023 the company raised 50 million United States dollars in a Series B round.
How they sell
ANYbotics sells to plant operators, not to consumers. Buyers start by contacting the sales team or booking a demonstration. A reseller network handles delivery and service in several countries, and the company runs onboarding and operator training on site.
No price is published. The company does not say what a robot, the Shift platform or a service contract costs, and there is no public order page.
