Who they are

EngineAI Robotics Technology Co., Ltd. is a robot maker based in Shenzhen, China. Its Chinese name is 深圳市众擎机器人科技有限公司. The company says it was set up in October 2023.

The founder and chief executive is Zhao Tongyang. The company says about 70 percent of its staff work in research and development. It describes its team as coming from China’s early legged-robot groups and from universities in China and abroad.

In July 2025 the company said it closed two funding rounds worth close to one billion yuan. It named the online retailer JD.com as the lead investor of the second round.

What they build

EngineAI builds robots that walk on two legs, plus one that walks on four. The main machines listed on its own product pages are:

  • PM01 — a humanoid robot about 1.4 metres tall and roughly 44 kilograms with its battery. It has 24 powered joints, a waist that turns more than 300 degrees, and about two hours of battery life. The computer inside is an Nvidia Jetson Orin NX module. One version has a chest touchscreen, another adds a laser scanner for mapping.
  • SE01 — the full-size humanoid, listed on the home page at 170 centimetres. It has a five-finger hand with six moving joints, cameras and a laser scanner.
  • T800 — a full-size humanoid, 173 centimetres tall and 75 to 85 kilograms. Versions range from 25 to 46 powered joints. The company gives a top joint torque of 450 newton-metres and three to five hours of battery life. It is shown doing warehouse, hotel and shop-assistant work.
  • JS01 — a four-legged robot the company calls a robotic hound. It states a carrying load of up to 80 kilograms and a top speed of three metres per second.
  • SA01 — the earlier two-legged research platform, launched in July 2024.
  • S2 — a service robot shown only as a concept. Its product page says nothing more than “stay tuned”.

The company says it designs its own joint motors, bodies and control software in house. It trains walking with neural networks fed by recorded human movement.

What they are known for

EngineAI is known for short videos of its robots moving in human-like ways. Its own history page claims the first front flip by a humanoid robot, in February 2025. That is a company claim, and such firsts are hard to check.

The company also calls SE01 the world’s first full-size general-purpose humanoid with a human-like walking gait. Again, this is its own wording, not an outside finding.

Beyond the videos, EngineAI robots work as greeters and demonstrators. The company opened a Shenzhen shop staffed by its robots with JD.com and the property firm Shum Yip. It says a Shenzhen plant can finish one robot every 15 minutes, and that each robot passes 79 checks before shipping. Those production figures come only from the company.

How they sell

EngineAI sells to businesses, universities and research labs, and it also lists robots on the Chinese shopping site JD.com. Its own purchase page shows PM01 at 188,000 yuan and SA01 at 42,000 yuan. At the PM01 launch in December 2024 the company priced it from 88,000 yuan, so the listed price has changed since.

No price is published for SE01, T800 or JS01 on the company site. The T800 page links to a search page on JD.com instead. For the other machines, buyers are asked to contact sales.

Warranty and repair terms are published. Inside mainland China the company offers remote help and factory repair. Outside mainland China it offers remote help and spare parts, with on-site service only after an assessment. It is not stated whether private buyers outside China can order, how long delivery takes, or how many robots have been delivered.

All figures above come from EngineAI’s own website and press releases. The funding and launch-price details are also reported by outside media.
